To finish off a study of Aboriginal Peoples and European Explorers, students in Grades JK-8 worked collaboratively to put together a puppet show of their favourite creation story they read during the unit – The Story of the Fire and the Flood.

The students were given a lot of choice and decision-making power in this activity.   They were tasked with negotiating who was going to write the script, who was going to be in charge of puppets and who would make the sets.  Although it was challenging at first with a mix of students in every grade from K-8 excluding Grades 4 and 8, the students soon figured out each other’s strengths and preferences. They were able to create a very original show with a diversity of puppet creations which will be performed for parents at our upcoming School Fair.

This activity really helped to build trust between the students, and helped to bring our students of varying ages together for a common cause.  Check out some of their puppets in our school photo gallery.
