Learning about fractions might just be one of the toughest math concepts in the Ontario Curriculum, and with our multi-grade class there are lots of different aspects of fractions to cover in our math sessions. 

We are happy to report, however, that our Grades 4-9 students seem to have made some major breakthroughs over the past while.  With the use of fraction games, like our Fraction Pizza game, and various classroom manipulatives, they are exploring new ways to visualize and work with these numbers. 

Most recently, students mastered finding common denominators to add fractions – not an easy feat, especially considering this task requires a sound knowledge of multiplication facts. 

We look forward to seeing how they progress throughout this unit.  Hopefully, they won’t do ½ bad.
