At 18 weeks in-utero, Jordan was diagnosed with Hypoplastic Left Heart syndrome. After his birth, he underwent three heart surgeries. His family first came to stay at the House in 2012, after complications from his heart surgeries were discovered.

What circumstance brought you to RMH Toronto?
On the last day of school in June 2012, Jordan was playing soccer outside and he got hit in the head, no big deal right? It was a minor concussion. However, three weeks later after seeing three doctors, my son was still lying on the couch and I knew something was wrong, so we brought him here to Toronto. They rushed him to neurosurgery. He had internal bleeding from the soccer ball.

How is your family coping?
My wife and I are both very stressed. We are just not sure what to be worried about. So I worry in general. The difference between my wife and me is that she worries whether he is healthy or not, and has been worrying every day for the last eight years. I take it one day at a time. 

How many times have you stayed at Ronald McDonald House Toronto?
Eight or nine times in both the old and new House.

What does it mean to you to be able to stay at the House?
My kids asked us to stay here at the House. My son specifically is excited to come here. Also, we are able to bring our daughter.

What has been the best part of being able to stay at the House?
The familiar faces. I feel welcomed, I know the people at reception. There are also some families that came from the same city as us. It feels comfy in this little glass house.

Jordan lost his battle in September, 2013. He was nine years old.
