Katie Doering, B.Ed., M.A.

Principal/Teacher

My name is Katie, and I have been teaching at the Ronald McDonald House Charities Toronto since 2003. I am also the principal, in charge of registering students and making important decisions about how the Ronald McDonald House Charities Toronto School works. Each year, I have the opportunity to teach students of all different ages, which is awesome, as I am happy teaching four year olds, seventeen year olds and everyone in between! Here at the Ronald McDonald House Charities Toronto School, I teach Language, Science, Phys. Ed, Music and Dance. My favourite subjects to teach are Language and Music because ever since I was little I have enjoyed reading, and being involved in bands, choirs and dance groups. In my experience, students learn best through hands-on activities based on their interests. I may be one of the teachers here, but I've been excited to learn a lot from my students over the years on topics like comics, pop stars, cars and fantasy sports teams. I always look forward to meeting new students, and finding out what they will bring to our unique classroom!

Danielle Myers, B. Ed., CCLS

Teacher

My name is Danielle, and I have been teaching at the Ronald McDonald House Charities Toronto School since 2010. I am also a Child Life Specialist, so I have experience working with children of all ages, in both a classroom and hospital setting. Here at the House, I teach Math, Social Studies, Art, Phys.Ed, Drama, and Yoga. Calendar is one of my favourite parts of the day, because I enjoy the time devoted to talking with students about how their previous day has been. My favourite subjects to teach are Visual Arts and Drama, as they were always my favourite when I was in school. Creating artwork of any kind is very calming, and I enjoy helping students recognize their potential in this area. I also love drama because it's fun, energetic and allows everyone involved the chance to try out something new! I think it is most important to make each and every student feel like the classroom is a place where they belong, are valued and are always welcome. I learn so much from our students and I love having the opportunity to work with and learn from people from across Canada and around the world.

Our classroom is a vibrant space that celebrates learning. Filled with oodles of natural light, the classroom hosts a computer lab, a collaborative learning centre, and for the first, time an outdoor play space.

All lessons and units taught at the Ronald McDonald House Charities Toronto School are taken from the Ontario Curriculum. Each month, we will work on different themes for each age group of kids at the House. Each student gets their very own program to make sure no one feels like they are falling behind in their regular school work back home.
